SUSTAINABLE WATER DELIVERY

Over the years many governments and NGO's installed boreholes with manual pumps all across Africa but never maintained or trained anybody to fix these mechanical pumps. Through visiting areas in Northern Mozambique we found that up to 75% of these clean water sources weren't functioning anymore. in 2008 we launched an initiative that has provided clean safe drinking water for nearly 250 000 people. We have been able ...more »

RainForUs

contruction of rain-water collection centres in villages to keep water for use in dry season. This would work best in a case where every small village has a rain-water collection point where water is collected and treated. such water can then be collected for use by members of the community in times of drought. The community members will then be responsible as a community to take care and clean around and the water collection ...more »

Community Crystal Water

Water is often said to be life, this literally then implies most Africans do not have life due to lack and insufficient clean water. Although Africa has a high aquifer, underground water is inefficiently and ineffectively harnessed, causing both social and economic problems. Deep wells are all over Africa but are often owned by individuals who tend to control the use of these wells by a particular community, also due ...more »

clean and safe water

I have come to think of something that I saw somewhere.some communities dig deep in the ground and once they have identified springs, they fix a good quality metallic pipe so that clean and naturally filtered water from the springs flows through. This way,the community can access that water at anytime. On the other hand,if we are to use boreholes like many of my friends suggested, the communities must be willing to contribute ...more »

STOP WASTAGE

we can save a lot of water especially in Ghana if we are able to stop the wastage from the point of production to the final consumer. It is believed that million of gallons of pipe borne water go waste before getting to the final consumer. I suggest that: 1. there should be a designated telephone number for citizens to call when there is any issue related to water 2. there should a rapid respond to calls made to the water ...more »

BASIC WATER CATCHMENT SYSTEMS IN SCHOOLS

I seek to build a basic catchment system on school rooftops that channels rainwater into an overhead or underground storage tank. School children, teachers and community members are trained to monitor, treat and use the captured water, encouraging personal and communal interest in the management of the system. The team can also build ecological latrines that provide healthy sanitation for schools. The program helps ...more »
